CALIFORNIA DICTIONARY PROJECT CELEBRATES NATIONAL DICTIONARY DAY IN SANTA CLARA

Santa Clara Third-Graders to Receive Dictionaries

Santa Clara, Calif. - October 11, 2007 – The California Dictionary Project (www.californiadictionaryproject.org) will commemorate National Dictionary Day on Tuesday, October 16 with a donation of nearly 1,200 dictionaries to the third-grade students in the Santa Clara Unified School District.

Beginning at 10:00 AM at Briarwood Elementary School in Santa Clara, volunteers from around the district and Santa Clara County will present dictionaries to the Briarwood third-graders in their classrooms. Throughout the morning, volunteers will distribute dictionaries in classrooms district-wide. This donation is made possible through the generosity of the Cisco Systems Foundation.

The donation is the California Dictionary Project’s second donation this school year and coincides with National Dictionary Day, named in honor of the birthday of the famous American wordsmith Noah Webster.

California Dictionary Project is now into its sixth and busiest year to date. The group’s goal is to provide a dictionary to every third-grade public school student in the Bay Area. This year the organization will donate dictionaries to third graders in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Campbell, West Contra Costa, Gilroy, Alum Rock, and Ravenswood, among other districts.
