CALIFORNIA DICTIONARY PROJECT CELEBRATES NATIONAL DICTIONARY DAY IN SANTA CLARA Santa Clara Third-Graders to Receive Dictionaries The donation is the California Dictionary Project’s second donation this school year and coincides with National Dictionary Day, named in honor of the birthday of the famous American wordsmith Noah Webster. California Dictionary Project is now into its sixth and busiest year to date. The group’s goal is to provide a dictionary to every third-grade public school student in the Bay Area. This year the organization will donate dictionaries to third graders in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Campbell, West Contra Costa, Gilroy, Alum Rock, and Ravenswood, among other districts. Project. The California Dictionary Project (www.californiadictionaryproject.org) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to donating and distributing a dictionary to every third-grade student in California’s public schools, annually. Since its inception in 2002, the group has donated more than 83,000 dictionaries, partnering with corporations, literacy groups, and other service organizations to distribute the dictionaries during classroom visits. The California Dictionary Project is funded entirely by donations from foundations, corporations, and individuals, and is operated entirely by volunteers.
